Keep Our Kids Safe Campaign
Security remains a priority at Trinity-Byrnes Collegiate School. While we do have many systems currently in place, we have identified several opportunities to further enhance our existing platform. We need your help to make these critical improvements between now and the start of the 2018-19 school year.

Dear Trinity-Byrnes Parents,
Security remains a priority at Trinity-Byrnes Collegiate School. As a part of a Five Year Strategic Plan, in 2013-14 the school’s security platform was upgraded to include campus wide security cameras, a central monitoring station, electronic card entry doors, and improved cyber security software. Further upgrades have been implemented over the last few years, particularly with the addition of our new Academic Building and Dining Hall. Over the last five years, these initiatives, infrastructure improvements and security upgrades have cost well over $150,000.
As a part of our longstanding efforts to maintain our position as the most secure, innovative, and technologically advanced secondary school in the Pee Dee Region, the Board of Trustees created a subcommittee, chaired by Dr. Paul Davis, to thoroughly review all existing safety procedures and protocols as well as to make recommendations regarding further upgrades and initiatives. Over the last few years we also have engaged the Darlington County Sheriff’s Department, as well as other security consultants, in an ongoing fashion to evaluate our existing campus security platform, safety policies, invasion response protocols, and immediate and long term security needs.
More recently, after review of outside security consultants’ reports along with a review of best practices at our peer schools in Columbia and Charleston, Mr. Hoffman, Mrs. Byrd and our TBCS School Safety Committee have identified several opportunities to further enhance our existing platform and multisystems approach to campus security and school safety.
- The addition of a full time on-campus Coordinator of School Safety and Security whose responsibilities and focus includes ensuring school security, leading student/faculty education and training sessions, providing student mentoring services, conducting Criminal Justice and Forensics for-credit courses, and engaging in other activities that will preserve and foster the unique culture that is Trinity-Byrnes.
- Better access to school-based student psychological support with the addition of a second faculty member within the Guidance and College Placement Office.
- Implementation of already planned facility and security infrastructure improvements including a new main entry gate and fencing along Hoffmeyer Road, additional campus security cameras, internal door locks for classrooms, rear property access point gates, and scheduled alarm systems repairs.
We hope to implement these initiatives between now and the start of the 2018-2019 school year. That is why we our asking for everyone’s help to make these critical improvements possible through your donation to the Annual Fund now!
