The core of all my classes is exploring “big picture” questions like, “How has a region’s geography and climate affected its history, culture, and current events?”, “What does it mean to be modern?”, “How and why have religions changed over time?”, and “To what extent do stereotypes color our understanding of faraway places and people?”. This approach emphasizes free inquiry, discussion, and the application of knowledge rather than rote memorization of facts, dates, and battles.

I like to allow students to explore these questions themselves, and I talk at them only to provide a framework and context to guide their own inquiries. In History and Religion, students read and analyze diverse primary sources like poems, political documents, religious texts, and even pieces of music and art. In US Government, they study political theory, the fundamental documents, and current issues in foreign and domestic policy. Finally, Geography students examine how human activity shapes our environment, and how the environment shapes us in turn.

Why should a family send their student to TBCS?

"At TBCS, we have something for every student: AP classes, a dynamic curriculum, drama, music, service opportunities, and athletics. Our students have the opportunity here to be both the star on the track team AND the lead in the high school play." - Mr. Nunn
